2011 was my resolution for starting a blog....and I did! Check that off my list. But, it really didn't go anywhere past my 2 posts. So, this year, my new resolution is to use it or lose it....
2012 is the year to try new things so I decided to begin with dinner. My girls are very opinionated about their likes and dislikes when it comes to meals and they eat two dinners every night when they are swimming competitively. My meal planning pretty much tanked towards the end of 2011. I lost the passion to be creative and organized with landing a good meal on the table.
I talked to Elie (12) and Katy (7) about what they thought about the idea of eating weekly meals from different countries. I thought by doing so, it would make my meal planning more focused and it would also introduce them to new flavors and connections of what foods come from different countries. They loved it! Katy immediately chose Japan as our first country because she's been studying about it in school. Also, mentioning that her cousin Ashley lives there helped in her selection process.
When mentioning this to my oldest daughter, Hannah (15), she replied, "What the heck".."you are weird"..."what exactly are we going to be eating"?
Well Hannah, it's not going to be that bad, I promise (crossing my fingers)...
So here it goes...I'm off to the store to buy miso paste and mirin... I need to learn the difference between mirin, sherry, rice wine and sake. I wonder if you can substitute any of them?
