Eat. Pray. Love Italian.

Tonight was date night, even though we went out the night before. It seems that Andy and I are celebrating 30 years of dating on Monday!!! I remember vividly, the night he picked me up in his old brown Duster. I was wearing a yellow yolk sweater with pink turtleneck, Calvin Klein jeans and Papagallo duck shoes. I was so nervous. I remember how his Duster got stuck on the big hill we live on and the neighbor had to push him up the hill (I'll bet he was feeling nervous too!) We went and saw Absence of Malice with Paul Newman and Sally Field.

So, we decided to end our time in Italy at an old restaurant in Des Moines, Tursi's Latin King, established in 1947.

It was magnificent! We shared two great meals:

  1. Pollo Alla Sorrentina, a breast of chicken, Prosciutto Ham with a light tomato sauce and melted mozzarella.
  2.  Livers Caruso. A bed a spaggetti with chicken livers, sweet bell peppers, tomatoes and mushrooms and onions in simmering sauce.

We would highly recommend a visit to Latin King for anyone wanting to enjoy authentic Italian food. Lots of food and leftovers, lots of fun!

We are still in a bit of shock that 30 years have gone by. It really doesn't seem real. We don't feel older. We still laugh at the same things. Our outlook is still the same. We have the same compassion for life and absolutely adore our kids.  We get each other. It's ok if the toilet lid is up (the only man thing Andy can own in the house). It's a true example of marrying your best friend.

We have so enjoyed Italy this week. It is truly an Eat. Pray. Love country. As I've mentioned, we WILL be back. The food is so simple, yet amazing. The flavors exude comfort. Next week is a warm weather country...can't wait!
