Layover in Des Moines.

We left Italy early this morning and stopped in Des Moines to go to a Birthday party for Grama Jane! We feasted on Ham Balls and Sweet Potatoes and ended the evening with an Opera Cake. The most delicious gourmet cake with layers of swiss butter cream and a coffee whipped mousse. Uncle B hosted and his dessert as always was magnificent!  We're now packing up for our trip to MEXICO where we'll be spending the week noshing on tacos, burritos, enchiladas and tortilla soup.

Tonight we brought two appetizers to Grama's party. Italian sausage stuffed mushrooms, one traditional with sauce and mozzarella and the other with Italian sausage and blue cheese. The other appetizer was Cowboy Caviar which has a Mexican flare with black beans and taco seasoning. It was our attempt to transition Italy and Mexico.

Italy was such a great country for us to visit. No complaints with the food. We have completed two weeks of our journey and are settling in. Mexico will be easy as well as long as we keep it somewhat bland and kid friendly.

Highlights of Italy:

  1. Skillet Lasagna. Never disappoints.
  2. Italian Beef. Will become a staple meal once we're back to eating everyday food.
  3. Tuesday Twosome was fun, adding variety and not following a recipe.
  4. Tursi's Latin King. Amazing traditional Italian.
  5. Grazianos. Best Italian market in town!
  6. Foccacia bread. 2 loaves, gone.
  7. 3 pounds of mozzarella left over. Can we freeze it?
  8. Pistachio Gelato. Say no more.
  9. Finding Mama Mary's pizza sauce after months without.
  10. NO meal complaints. A record in the family!!!!
This week will be quite the Fiesta!
