Day Two in Japan.... Whipped up an interesting Asian Turkey (ground) Chili in the crock pot. It was quite tasty. Kind of weird that it looks just like American chili but the flavors of Japan translated into a surprising end result. Served with white rice that should have been the base of the dish with the chili poured over it, my naysayers all requested chili on the side of their rice (their main meal in their eyes).
Katy's friend Cal was here and I talked him into dining in Japan. He was a trooper and ate it up. I was so excited that I warmed up the ginger pork from the night before and he gobbled it up to my delight. I think Cal may need to replace Elie in the family during dinners this year!
Overall rating of the meal... Hannah loved the flavor and meat part of the chili (no beans, really?); Elie just said NO and ate white rice; Katy was busy eating the rice with her chopsticks and Andy and I thought the flavor and overall meal was excellent. Who would have guessed Asian Chili?
It may not make the Christmas card recipe for next year but day two in Japan did not let us down. Tomorrow is Hoisin Chicken served with rice. I may even add a salad with Asian dressing and chow-mein noodles. At least the kids have rice to fall back on...
How did I not know that you had a blog?! Welcome to Japan! I'll be following you from now on!
ReplyDeleteIf I may request, recipes should accompany these blog posts, please. I would like to dine in Japan too!
ReplyDeleteHey Pammy. What a fun, cool blog! Just remember all that rice can bind you up. (I spent a little too much time in Japan last year not feeling so good): You should try Udon or Soba noodles - quite tasty! My kids really like the noodles and broth (dashi (fish) broth).
ReplyDeleteKeep up the posts! I'll be following to see how the food experiments go.
